Ten Gods

Direct Resource (正印)

Direct Resource (正印) is one of the Ten Gods — labels for how each stem relates to your Day Master. It covers support, learning, credentials, care received.

01

Definition of Direct Resource (正印)

Direct Resource (正印) is the stem whose element is the element that generates the Day Master, opposite polarity. The name only describes a relation; it changes with the Day Master. Its core themes are support, learning, credentials, care received.

Every Ten God belongs to one of five families: companions, output, wealth, officer and resource. Direct Resource (正印) is in the resource family together with Indirect Resource (偏印); the two differ only by polarity.

03

Constructive and excessive expressions

  • Constructive: patience, kindness, learning capacity, protection.
  • In excess or poorly balanced: passivity, dependence, over-thinking without acting.

Which expression applies depends on balance: a Ten God that supplies what the Day Master lacks is usually read constructively; one that piles onto an already heavy side is read as excess.

BaZi is a traditional cultural system. This page explains how the symbols are defined and read; it does not make scientific claims or predictions about your health, money or relationships.

04

Direct Resource (正印) in the cycle of Ten Gods

The Ten Gods follow the same generating and controlling cycles as the five elements, which lets you trace how one theme feeds or restrains another.

Same-polarity relations (偏) are traditionally read as more forceful or irregular, opposite-polarity relations (正) as more balanced or conventional. This is a tendency, not a rule about outcomes.

How to count it in your chart

  1. Calculate your chart in the BaZi calculator.
  2. Each pillar card shows the Ten God of its stem above the character; Direct Resource (正印) is labelled directly.
  3. Open "Hidden stems" under each branch to see hidden Ten Gods.
  4. The Ten Gods table totals visible and hidden appearances separately.

07

Direct Resource (正印) in luck and annual pillars

A Ten God does not have to be in the natal chart to matter. When a luck pillar or annual pillar brings Direct Resource (正印), its themes — support, learning, credentials, care received — come forward for that period. The calculator labels the Ten God of every luck pillar and of the annual pillar you select.

  • If the natal chart lacks Direct Resource (正印), a period that brings it is often read as introducing that theme.
  • If the natal chart already has plenty, the same period can tip it into excess.
  • Combinations or clashes between the incoming stem and natal stems modify how strongly it acts.

08

Questions for reflection

  • Where in your life do the themes of support, learning, credentials, care received show up most clearly?
  • When does it feel constructive (patience, kindness, learning capacity, protection) and when does it tip into passivity, dependence, over-thinking without acting?
  • How does Indirect Resource (偏印) — the same family with opposite polarity — compare in your experience?

09

Common misreading

More Resource is not always better: for a strong Day Master, extra support can make the chart heavier.

Ten God names come from classical Chinese and sound dramatic in translation. Read them as labels of relations, then look at balance and the luck pillars before drawing any conclusion.

The stem whose element is the element that generates the Day Master, opposite polarity. Themes: support, learning, credentials, care received.

Not necessarily. Missing stars can be supplied by luck pillars and annual pillars, and the chart is read as a whole.
I have several Direct Resource (正印). What does it mean?
The theme is emphasised. Whether it reads as constructive (patience, kindness, learning capacity, protection) or excessive (passivity, dependence, over-thinking without acting) depends on the Day Master's strength.
Do hidden Direct Resource (正印) count?
Yes, but with less weight than a visible stem; main-qi hidden stems weigh more than residual ones.
