Metal Weak Day Master
A weak Metal Day Master is one of the most common questions in BaZi. This page explains the signs to check, the classical useful-element reasoning and the caveats.
01
What "Metal weak" means
This page is about a chart whose Day Master is Metal (庚 Geng Yang Metal or 辛 Xin Yin Metal) and is judged weak. "Weak" means pressure outweighs support: the Day Master is out of season or lightly rooted, and output, wealth and officer stars dominate.
Strength is a judgement, not a measurement. Different schools weigh season, roots and stems differently; this site shows the inputs transparently instead of printing a single score.

03
Useful element reasoning
For a weak Metal Day Master, the support/restrain method looks for Earth and Metal: resource (Earth) feeds it, companions (Metal) share the load. Extra Water, Wood, Fire is usually considered a burden.
Seasonal adjustment (调候) can take priority: In season in autumn; earth supports it; summer fire forges it (a classic preference when it is strong); in winter it becomes cold and sinks into water. In season in autumn; it is said to like water to wash and show its shine (壬); thick earth can bury it; strong fire can melt it.
There are also "follow" (从格) structures: when Metal is extremely weak with no support at all, some schools stop opposing the trend and follow it instead. These are rare and need care.

Step-by-step walkthrough
- Confirm the Day Master is 庚 or 辛 in the calculator.
- Read the month branch. In 丑, 辰, 未, 申, 酉, 戌 months Metal is prosperous or strengthening; in 寅, 卯, 巳, 午 months it is confined or dead.
- List the roots: which branches hide Metal (or Earth as resource) and in what position.
- Count visible helpers (Earth, Metal) against visible drains (Water, Wood, Fire) among the three other stems.
- Look for combinations or clashes that add or remove support (a clashed root counts less).
- Conclude "weak" only if most factors agree; mixed signals usually mean a balanced or moderately weak chart.

| Resource 印 | Earth | supports |
| Output 食伤 | Water | drains |
| Wealth 财 | Wood | consumes energy |
| Officer 官杀 | Fire | adds pressure |

Practising with a weak Metal Day Master
The fastest way to understand a weak Metal Day Master is to look at real charts rather than memorise rules. Enter a birth date, time and city in the BaZi Calculator, then locate where a weak Metal Day Master appears: in a visible stem, hidden inside a branch, in the current luck pillar or in this year's annual pillar. Note the position, because the year pillar is usually read as background and early life, the month pillar as environment and career setting, the day pillar as the self and close partner, and the hour pillar as later life and output.
- Compare two or three charts where a weak Metal Day Master is prominent and two where it is absent; write down what differs in the overall balance.
- Check the month branch first: seasonal strength changes how much any factor matters.
- Use the hidden-stems and Ten Gods tables in the calculator output instead of guessing.
- Treat single factors as clues, never as verdicts; classical texts always weigh the whole chart.
Different schools describe a weak Metal Day Master with slightly different emphasis. This site follows widely used conventions (solar-term months, true solar time optional, Zi hour setting configurable) and states them openly so you can compare results with a book or another calculator.

Luck and annual pillars
Luck pillars bring ten-year doses of elements. For a weak Metal chart, periods dominated by Earth or Metal are traditionally read as more balancing, and periods dominated by Water or Wood or Fire as less so. The calculator lists every luck pillar with its Ten God so you can trace this.
- 甲 Jia periods: Wood → adds to the imbalance
- 乙 Yi periods: Wood → adds to the imbalance
- 丙 Bing periods: Fire → adds to the imbalance
- 丁 Ding periods: Fire → adds to the imbalance
- 戊 Wu periods: Earth → balancing
- 己 Ji periods: Earth → balancing
- 庚 Geng periods: Metal → balancing
- 辛 Xin periods: Metal → balancing
- 壬 Ren periods: Water → adds to the imbalance
- 癸 Gui periods: Water → adds to the imbalance
