Hidden Stems Calculator

Hidden stems explain why a chart can feel strong in an element that barely shows on the surface, and why a clash to one branch can stir several elements at once.

Main qi (本气) carries most of the weight; middle and residual qi are progressively weaker. Storage branches 辰戌丑未 each hold three stems and are the most complex.

1. Calculate your chart.
2. Read the stems listed under each branch, main qi first.
3. Find any hidden stem with the same element as your Day Master — that is a root.
4. Check whether any hidden stem also appears as a visible stem (透干).
5. Open the branch guides for each of your four branches.

Charts on this site use the published rule set: true solar time by default, the year changes at 立春 (Start of Spring), months change at the 12 节 solar terms and the day changes at 23:00. Example charts below are computed live by the same engine.

• RootA stem is rooted when a branch in the chart contains the same element among its hidden stems.
